Programme Overview The
Certificate in International Business has been designed to enable
students to understand the opportunities and challenges facing Irish
& European business in the international environment with a clear
focus on multinational and transnational operations. It will provide a
theoretical underpinning for administrative positions in businesses
involved in international trade and/or import/export business where the
working language is English. Programme Aims & Objectives On successful completion of this programme students should have acquired the skills to: - Identify the effects of the single market on Irish and European business
- Outline reasons for the development of transnational companies
- Explain the role of information technology on international trade
- Discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Irish and European business in developed and developing markets
- Explain the role of global marketing in international business
- Explain the purpose of the main European Union policies and directives
- Use a range business communications skills to survive and thrive in international businesses
- Use English as a foreign language to communicate with clients and function in an international industry
- Utilise business research and IT software to carry out minor research in Multinational Industry research projects
- Use an optional third language (Spanish or Chinese) for everyday interactions.
Assessment Assessment
for the programme will take the form of traditional end of semester
closed book examination and continuous assessment. The weighting of this
assessment will vary module to module, depending upon the nature of the
subject material and the teaching and learning objectives. Continuous
assessment will be deployed throughout the programme and may include
debate, problem solving exercises, practical projects, case studies,
research based projects, presentations, academic essays and a final

Entry Requirements Students
must have successfully completed a minimum of two semesters of
undergraduate study in business in their home college or university.
They must also have an upper intermediate standard of English.
